Hopkins Cape Cod: Old Wood Shakes to New Shingle Siding, Same Classic White

The project

Not every project is a dramatic color change. This Hopkins Cape Cod had the look its owners loved, white shingles over painted brick with black shutters, but the old wood shakes were splitting, cupping and taking on water.

We replaced the wood shakes with James Hardie shingle siding in the same white, kept the trim profile, and left the painted brick alone. From the street the house looks like it always has. Up close, it is finally weathertight, and the owners are done with the scrape-and-paint cycle for good.
